Rudy Martinez, Democrat, recently announced broad support of his campaign for NM House of Representatives District 39. The campaign announced he has received endorsements from nine influential statewide organizations- The American Federation of Teachers (AFT-NM),  National Education Association-NM, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), NM Building and Construction Trades Council, United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 412 (UA), NM Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO), Sierra Club, OLE' and the Animal Protection Voters have all announced their decision to endorse Martinez in the 2014 NM House election.

"I am honored to have been recommended by these organizations to serve as the candidate in the general election," Martinez said. "I'm excited to have such unity behind my campaign, this vote of confidence from these groups inspires me to continue to be the voice for those I serve- I appreciate all of the support."

Martinez is no stranger to covering multiple counties to serve the constituents of New Mexico House of Representatives District 39. Since redistricting of NM House districts in 2012, Martinez serves a three county area. "It has been an honor to represent the citizens of Dona Ana, Grant, and Sierra counties that are in House District 39."

Martinez is born and raised in Southern New Mexico and is a Vietnam Veteran. He was employed at Chino Mines for 33 years, is a licensed journeyman and is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 611.

During his tenure since 2007 in the House, Martinez has been noted as having the admired ability to work 'across the aisle' with both republicans and democrats. He has carried sixty-four pieces of legislation, worked with fellow law makers on multiple memorials and has been appointed to several powerful committees for our State. He currently is a member of Appropriations and Finance Committee, which develops the preliminary budget during the session, is Vice-Chair of Rules Committee and a member of the Health, Government and Indian Affairs Committee.  During the interim period he sits as Co-Chairman of Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, is designee on the Legislative Finance Committee, is a member of Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee and Water and Natural Resource Committee.

"Over the past seven years I have gained much respect for the legislators who came before me. We stand on their shoulders and build on their leadership. I am proud to serve the State in this capacity, my experience and knowledge in fiscal matters has helped me serve on these very important committees" stated Martinez.

Absentee voting begins October 7th with early in-person voting beginning Saturday, October 18th - General voting taking place on November 4th, 7am to 7pm.
