SILVER CITY: Monday Grant County rancher and small business owner Billy Billings announced that he will be running for the District 4 County Commission seat, a seat newly created after the commission districts were changed, seeing an expansion from three to five commissioners. The election for County Commissioner will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016 in conjunction with the General Election.

GǣI am seeking a position on the Grant County Commission because we, the citizens of Grant County want our children and grandchildren to have a safe place to live, and we want them to have opportunities to stay here or to return after college and raise their families here - if that's what they decide to do. We must keep Grant County economically viable." Billings said, " I intend to be a ready listener, and am prepared to represent the interests of the people of the 4th district and all of Grant County.Gǥ

GǣI believe Billy Billings will make a great county commissioner,Gǥ Republican of Grant County 1st Vice Chair Curtis Stevens Jr. said, GǣHis background will be representative of the rural ranching and farming communities comprising the district.Gǥ

Born and raised in Grant County, Billy has been married to his wife Rhonda 35 years and they have raised four children and have seven grandchildren. Billings served on the Silver Consolidated Schools Board for four years, representing the Cliff and Gila district. He has also served with and supported numerous youth programs and activities.

A longtime member of the Grant County Farm Bureau and past president of the Grant County Area Cattle Growers Assoc., Billings was recently elected to the Grant/Luna USDA - Farm Service Agency County Committee. Billings is also a voting member of the Gila Regional Medical Center Foundation, which partners with individuals, health care providers, businesses and other organizations to ensure quality local healthcare in Grant County.

County Commission District 4 is the largest geographically of the Grant County Commission Districts, and includes the communities of Cliff, Gila, Buckhorn, Mule Creek, Gila Hot Springs, Pinos Altos, Redrock, Hatchita, and White Signal. District 4 also includes that part of Silver City between Little Walnut Road and Pinos Altos Road, North of 32nd Street.
