Grant County Chief Deputy Clerk Marisa Castrillo, a Democrat, has announced her candidacy for the office of County Clerk. Experience and innovation are key components to her candidacy as she continues to work towards improved processes and strategies for making the office of the County Clerk constituent friendly and an elections leader in the State of New Mexico.

GǣI feel I am qualified for this position with my elections, recording and administration background that I have received from my 17 years of experience working in the County Clerk's Office,Gǥ Castrillo said in her announcement. GǣI have learned so much in the Clerk's office having the opportunity to work for many outstanding Clerks, while having firsthand experience on rapid changes to the election process New Mexico has seen over the past 10 years.Gǥ

As a new employee to the County Clerk's office in 1999, under then Clerk Gabriel Ramos, Marisa has gradually moved from deputy clerk to Chief Deputy under current Clerk Robert Zamarripa. In 2005, former Clerk Howie Morales appointed Marisa as Bureau of Elections Director, giving her the expertise necessary in administering elections that ensures integrity, fairness and voter rights protection.

Marisa is a lifelong resident of Grant County and is the mother of two children, Norman Castrillo Jr. and Cheyanne Castrillo. Together with her husband of 26 years, Norman Castrillo Sr, she has 2 grandchildren Haleigh Castrillo and Marilyn Ortega.

GǣAs County Clerk, I will focus on continual improvements to the overall office. Customer Service is priority to ensure each visitor we have enter our doors has a pleasant and helpful experience. In addition, the Clerk's office will be very active in our community promoting voter engagement and education within our local school districts and civic groups while researching technological advances such as improved website and deed searches, providing a more efficient constituent experience.Gǥ
