Silver City, NM (March 2, 2016)-Alicia Edwards announced today that she will be running for Grant County Commissioner in District 3. GǣThere are serious issues facing Grant County today...the need to diversify economically and develop an entrepreneurial culture that encourages small business growth, not just in Silver City but all of our communities; the Gila diversion project, and the challenge of providing desperately needed services in an environment of ever shrinking resources to name a few. I think the myriad of issues that face our communities today can best be addressed by being open to new ideas, fostering a spirit of communication, collaboration and cooperation and believing that everyone has something valuable to contribute regardless of their circumstances. I've spent the last ten years building community through civic engagement, volunteerism, networking and partnerships'I'm a very strong believer in the power of partnerships for getting things done. I look forward to bringing my community building skills to the role of county commissioner.Gǥ

Ms. Edwards moved to Silver City 12 years ago and is thrilled to be able to call Grant County her chosen home. GǣI'm very aware of the tension between being from here and not. I'm in awe of the people who have been here all their lives or their families being here for multiple generations. There's something very special about that kind of rootedness. I also think there's a lot of value in having been many places and choosing to be here'our commonality is that we all call Grant County home.Gǥ

Ms. Edwards is the former Executive Director of The Volunteer Center and recently became the coordinator for Healthy Kids Healthy Communities Grant County. Additionally she is a founding member of the Grant County Food Policy Council, ad hoc member of the Southwest Regional Food Policy Council, founding advisory board member of the Grant County Community Foundation, a Grant County Community Health Council member representing the Community Resiliency and Food Security sector and a member of the Strategic Leadership Institute.
