Representative John L. Zimmerman, incumbent in House District 39, announced his campaign for reelection. As state representative for District 39 Zimmerman represents parts of Dona Ana, Grant and Sierra counties.

GǣIt is an incredible honor to serve the people of District 39,Gǥ Zimmerman said. GǣTwo years ago I promised to be available to the people I serve and to get things done in Santa Fe. I have done both.Gǥ

Zimmerman has worked on a number of bills to support the military, improve the economy, create a more ethical government and keep his constituents safe in their communities.
During the 2016 session, he sponsored a proposal that would have allowed voters to approve the creation of an independent ethics commission. He also co-authored a measure that establishes a new student loan program for the Burrell School of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University. Graduates of the medical school could have their student loans forgiven if they agree to practice in a health professional shortage area. Recently, the bill was signed into law by Gov. Susana Martinez.

Representative Zimmerman takes pride in sponsoring legislation to honor and support the military. For example, he has consistently fought to protect and improve the benefits available to members of the New Mexico National Guard and their families. This year, he also sponsored a bill that created awards for members of the military and law enforcement who put their lives on the line for New Mexicans daily. The bill was also signed into law by Gov. Martinez.
GǣAs a retired Naval officer, I take it upon myself to ensure we do whatever we can to support the men and women in the armed forces,Gǥ Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman is a member of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee and the Health Committee. He also sits on six interim sub-committees: Tobacco Settlement Committee, Legislative Finance Committee, Economic and Rural Development Committee, Water and Natural Resources Committee, Military and Veterans Committee and Science Technology and Telecommunications Committee.

He has been a resident of Dona Ana County since 1967. He spent 36 years working at White Sands Missile Range as a test engineer, and in 2003, he retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve at the rank of Navy Commander after 42 years of service. He and his wife, Mary, have six children and ten grandchildren.

GǣI humbly ask for your vote this November as I look forward to continuing to work hard for New Mexicans in Santa Fe. Representing District 39 is a privilege, and I appreciate being given this opportunity to serve the people of New Mexico,Gǥ Zimmerman concluded.
