raul villanuevaRaul D. Villanueva is seeking re-election as city councilman for the city of Bayard. Villanueva was raised in the mining district of Grant County and has been a public servant for the County of Grant for 28 years serving as a law enforcement officer and a city councilor for the City of Bayard. His education includes graduating from Cobre High School in 1988 and Western New Mexico in 1991. Villanueva began his law enforcement career in 1990 working for the Hurley Police Department, then in 1992 with the Silver City Police Department and in 1995 began working with the Sheriff’s Office and is currently the elected Sheriff of the Grant County Sheriff's Office. In 2014 Villanueva was elected City Councilman for the City of Bayard and continues to serve.

In his time with the Sheriff’s Department he was the former President of the local union AFSCME Local 2516, is a member of the Grant County Safety Committee, as well as a board member of the Central Dispatch Authority, and is a member of the Board of Directors for El Refugio and the Rotary Club.

In his time with the City Council he has been involved in the following projects: Water meter automation project, well field and well rehab, Stewart Street crossing, Orchard Street improvement, cemetery project and the welcome to Bayard sign project. Currently he is involved in the recreation improvements, wastewater field repairs and the regional water project with the Grant County Water Commission. He is very active with the youth in the community by coaching several sports.

Villanueva would like to continue to serve the residents of Bayard as a Councilor and to continue to work on the projects the city is pursuing. Villanueva is the proud father of 6 children and 4 grandchildren. I am asking for your support and vote on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.
