Grant County entities receive Colonias funding

Grant County entities were awarded almost $1.9 million in Colonias Infrastructure Funds, thanks to legislation passed by Sen. Howie Morales to fund this year's CIF at $16 million.

Projects and their awards include:
• Hanover Mutual Domestic Water Association, $175,206 for water system improvements;
• Hurley, $519,671 for phase 1 of water system improvements;
• Grant County, $299,970 for engineering and design on North Hurley Road;
• Tyrone Mutual Domestic Water Association, $121,366 for water system improvements;
• Bayard, $417,871 for water system improvements, including rehabilitating broken lines and well rehabilitation; and
• Silver City, $361,306 to replace clay pipes between Boston Hill and Market Street.


According to Priscilla Lucero, Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments executive director, these were funds awarded out of the 2013 funding. Out of 2012 reversion funds, Lake Roberts received $100,000 for water system improvements.

In Luna County, Columbus was awarded $140,713 for a wastewater project.

Hidalgo County received two awards— Lordsburg, 725,555 for rehabilitation of a water tank and water line, and Animas received $701,723 for design and drainage construction on three roads.

Catron County received the largest award in the area of $907,796 for closing the Reserve and Glenwood landfills as required by the New Mexico Environment Department Solid Waste Bureau.
