There has been no increase in acreage on the Silver fire since Friday. The crews that remain on the fire are concentrating on rehabilitation of dozer and hand lines and removing snags from affected roads and trails.

Priorities have now shifted from active fire suppression to rehabilitation of the burned area. The Silver Fire Baer Team members are currently evaluating the burn scar to determine the emergency to reduce flooding and erosion to downstream communities.

A public meeting is being planned for the Mimbres area residents for early next week.  Date, location and time will be posted once finalized. Grant Co. Emergency manager and planning manager are planning to attend.

Open/Closed Areas: FS Road 150 is open, high clearance vehicles are recommended. NM Highway 152 is open.  Safety is still a concern and drivers should be alert for domestic livestock, wildlife, rocks, fallen trees and debris along the road. For road information, go to www.nmroads.com.  An emergency closure remains in effect for a small portion of the Gila National Forest in the vicinity of the fire area.  Recreation sites along Hwy 152 remain closed and the entire Aldo Leopold Wilderness area is also closed.  For more information about the area of the fire closure go to www.fs.usda.gov/gila

Initial Attack Fires
In the past 24 hours there have been 27 fires reported on the Forest. Forest Fire personnel continue to respond to lightning strikes, a majority of the fires have been a single snag and contained or controlled. Some of the fires have been in remote inaccessible areas that are more difficult to get to and have been monitored either by aircraft, lookout towers, or fire personnel.

Forest Closures: State Road 159 (Bursum Road) is closed due to flooding. Catwalk National Recreation Trail is closed to the public for flood hazard.
