Retired Grant County Director and Agriculture Agent Ron Lamb was recently honored at the NM State 4-H Conference as a Friend of 4-H.

Lamb served as an extension agent for many years, but began his career teaching agriculture in Northern New Mexico--first at Tia Amarilla, followed by Hagerman, and then in Chama. He joined the extension service as an Ag Agent in Eddy County, then he served in Otero and finally moved to Grant County in 1984 where he remained until his retirement in 2006.

Lamb was instrumental in helping establish the State 4-H Livestock School, especially the Lamb School.  When asked about the number of 4-Hers he took on National trips, the reply was, "Not enough fingers to count on!"
Although he is officially retired, Lamb still raises “club” lambs for the area 4-H and FFA members. He also uses his creativity to design and make specialty knives with carved mesquite handles, and he designs and makes spurs and pistol grips.

The Grant County 4-H Council was privileged to nominate Mr. Lamb for this honor, and all who know him were thrilled that the state selected him as an honoree.
