Silver City: The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has been working effortlessly in clearing roadways and culverts that have been overtaken with heavy debris due to large volumes of rain fall this past week.

Currently the NMDOT has the following routes in southern New Mexico closed:

These routes will be reopened once the NMDOT has cleared the roadway and is safe for the motorists to travel.

Trent Doolittle, District One Engineer stated. “The department apologizes for any inconvenience this has created for residents and any businesses; however, the district immediately mobilized equipment and personnel so that the large debris could be removed which has covered our roadways. There is also minor repair work needed that is associated to the washout of debris caused by the rain.” As rain continues, the department will monitor the roadway for any additional washouts or debris to insure the safety of the traveling public.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid these areas until conditions change. Updates on road projects and traffic alerts will be posted on the department’s web site www.NMroads.com, and by calling 511 in New Mexico or 1-800-432-4269 out of state.
