The second shooting victim in a shooting that took place late Friday morning, Jose Varela, 17 years of age, died at Gila Regional Medical Center at about 10:30pm on August 30, 2013. The charges on Filemon Varela Jr. will be amended sometime today to include a second count of murder.

No one was found in the residence at 1620 N. Swan Street upon entry by the combined SWAT teams.

On Friday evening, a second search warrant was served at the suspect’s residence which is located at 400 N. Corbin Street in Silver City and the handgun apparently used in the shooting was recovered.
