Mimbres, NM; September 11, 2013--The West and Middle Fork of the Gila River have experienced high waters flows for the past two days requiring the temporary closure of the Grapevine Campground located on Forest Road (FR) 528, and the flooded portion of the lower Forks (FR 614) in the Forks Campground area. The Forks Campground remains open; only the lower Forks area north of the campground along the river is temporarily closed. The East Fork also has high water flows.

Although Gila River water levels were lower as of today, the National Weather Service predicts heavy rains tonight through possibly Friday (September 13th) with a flash flood watch in effect through Thursday night.

The campground and the lower Forks area will remain closed until river conditions and the weather forecast change. Conditions will be assessed towards the end of the week to determine if these currently closed sites will be open for the weekend.

The Upper and Lower Scorpion Campgrounds located south of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument remain open.
