Homemade Hoedown Banjo Kids played this afternoon as part of the second and final day of Pickamania! (Photo by Jane Janson)

Mimbres Region Arts Council's Pickamania concluded today with a blip at the beginning of the event. The Catron County group Sacaton, made up of Bucky Allred of Glenwood, Dee Ford of Alma, and Roger Skaggs, who teaches in Reserve, were unable to get to Silver City because of overnight flooding and debris having closed the main bridge through Glenwood. They spent their day helping neighbors and friends deal with the clean up.

Jeannie McLerie and Ken Keppler, Bayou Seco, stepped into the void and were warmly received by the audience. A special feature today was the Homemade Hoedown Banjo Kids playing their banjos made of cookie tins. Jane Janson helped arrange the Homemade Hoedown, which is a movement to introduce the joy of making homemade instruments to Pickamania!

The Kids are Joseph Castello, Sebi Castello, Ila Rose Duffy, Marin Farley, Olive Gore, Maya Johns, Jordyn Martinez, Sylvia Myers and Lily Myers. They were accompanied by Bayou Seco, Martha Egnal, and Cynthia Dames.
