The names of those killed in the locomotive derailment of a Southwestern Railroad train north of Bayard, which was hauling magnetite, a non-hazardous iron ore, have been released.

All three lived in the area, although two had recently relocated to Hurley from Arizona.

Donald A. White, 38, of Silver City died in the accident, for which the cause has not yet been determined.

Steven Crose, 60, and his girlfriend, Ann Thompson, were killed when the locomotive derailed and plunged into the arroyo alongside the tracks.

The Southwestern Railroad is composed of two lines, one privately owned and one leased. The two lines serve the Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold Inc. mining operations at Chino and Tyrone.
