Situation: This afternoon, Valencia County Fire Department crews and volunteer fire departments responded to new wildfires. The largest, the 5-acre Crawford Fire, is now 75% contained. The fire burned along the clear ditch near Gabaldon Road and threatened several structures. Crews will remain on the fire overnight to deal with numerous hot spots and monitor containment lines. Several other agencies, including New Mexico State Forestry and the Corrales Fire Department also sent engines to assist. A helicopter being used for mop up operations on the near by Rec Fire on the Isleta Pueblo was diverted to the Crawford fire as well.

The Canejo Fire burned two acres along East Mesa but was quickly suppressed by local resource. It is 100% contained.

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
