Area Closures: Public access within the vicinity of the fire area is discouraged. Official closures are being finalized.

Summary: The Signal Fire, located approximately 11 miles north of Silver City has grown to 2500 acres. The fire is currently 0% contained. Multiple runs and torching were observed with the fire spotting up to ΒΌ mile. The fire is burning in timber with a grass understory. A total of 284 personnel are currently assigned to the incident with multiple handcrews, engines, air resources, and overhead on order. A Type II Incident Management team will be briefed and given an overview of the fire at 2:00 p.m. today.

Forest users are reminded the Gila National Forest is currently in Stage I Fire Restrictions. Fires are currently allowed in developed campgrounds, in Forest Service provided metal rings, and smoking within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
