SILVER CITY, NM; May 13, 2014 12:00 p.m. – Today on the Signal Fire, crews will continue constructing fireline along the northern perimeter and the Meadow Creek road and securing fireline to the Signal Peak Lookout. The fire is estimated at 4,700 acres with 507 personnel assigned.

Smoke is settling in local communities in the evening and remaining until the next morning. Local smoke monitoring information may be found at the Interagency Real Time Smoke Monitoring Website http://app.airsis.com/USFS/realtime/fleet.asp.

The Big Tree Trailhead near the Forest Service Administration Site in Ft. Bayard will be closed due to the Incident Command Post being established in the area, and to reduce traffic congestion for firefighters.

The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument remains open, and can be accessed from NM Hwy 35. Businesses in Pinos Altos are open.

Organizations and cooperators assisting with the fire include: Pinos Altos Fire Dept., Grant County Sheriff's Office, NM State Police, NM Dept. of Transportation, Sapillo Fire Dept., the Town of Silver City, Grant County Commission, and NM State Forestry.
