The Cobre school board met Monday evening, May 12, at the District Office with all members present: Frances Kelly, Frank Gomez, Robert Montoya, Frank Cordova and Toy Sepulveda, board president. Before the public meeting at 7:00, the board met to discuss policy and recent updates, which they go over periodically, according to Kelly.

At the usual 6:00 closed portion, they discussed student identifiable information and personnel. The open session began at 7:08 p.m.

The board approved one request for use of facilities from June Decker. She asked for the use of the gym at San Lorenzo at the end of May for the Pickle Ball Clinic, to assess local interest in the sport. The board also approved the special education 2014-2015 Policies and Procedures recently received from the Public Education Department at Santa Fe.

In the superintendent's report. Razanna Thomas of the Partnership for Success II, overseen by the Grant County Community Health Council, outlined a number of things area kids could do with their time this summer. The program is geared to helping students use their time to gain skills and further their interests outside of school. Brandi Warhank thanked the board and area principals, Kessler, Davis and Miller, for their support and said 105 students had taken part in the successful youth volleyball program, which worked with the elementary children. The P E teacher at Snell, Martinez, had been their coach.

Shauna McCosh of Cobre School Health Council had reported information on the Wellness Policy to keep the board updated, and a fourth presenter, George Peru, told the board about the improvements to Bayard Elementary, still ongoing. Peru also reported on gray water work for the fields, and said he would be asking for emergency funds soon to repair the outdated plumbing at the high school as needed.

The student representative to the board, Emanuel Reynolds, reported on the recent prom held over the weekend. According to Reynolds, the senior trip to Tucson would be held on May 21 and the Cobre Sports Banquet that night after the seniors returned. The last day of school at Cobre is scheduled for May 30. Senior checkout will be on May 27

Because the next regular board meeting date falls on May 26, observed Memorial Day,
the board will meet on that Tuesday, May 27. The public session will begin at 7:00 as usual.
