Silver City, Pinos Altos, Gila Cliff Dwellings and Local Special Events are Not Being Impacted by the Fire

Yesterday's Actions: Firefighters continued to mop up on the northwest corner of the fire. Existing fire lines were strengthened and constructed on the north, northeast, south and east flank. Old roads were opened to create additional containment lines. The structure protection group completed a burnout operation to protect private in-holdings on the south side of the fire.

Today's Actions: Strategy for this fire is full suppression. Crews will continue mop up on the northwest flank of the fire, and build lines on the northeast and east sides (near Skates Canyon) in preparation for burnout operations. On the southeast (near Allie Canyon) and south sides, firefighters will continue to build direct line (containment line near the fire's edge). Mop up and patrol will continue on the southwest flank. Structure protection personnel will continue work around private structures south of the fire. Aircraft will support firefighters by dropping retardant and water to allow ground forces to continue with suppression activities.

Weather: Today will be mostly sunny, with temperatures ranging from 58 to 66 degrees. Minimum relative humidity is predicted to be 14% to 18% with light and variable winds. Temperatures are expected to gradually increase over the next few days. Critical fire weather conditions are possible over the weekend and into next week.

State Highway 15 has been reopened to the public effective 8 AM today.

A public meeting will be held at 6 PM tonight, at the Bayard Community Center in Bayard, NM.

Rake and remove all dead and down limbs, brush, and pine needles
Place wood piles at least 100 feet from your structure
