The Signal Fire did not change size today, Wednesday, May 14, according to Punky Moore, acting public affairs officer.

"The good news is that the acreage is still at 5,740," Moore said. "It is 25 percent contained, with 688 personnel. We have 22 crews on the ground. It's rough, tough country and it takes time and people to build the fire line."

She said the north and east portions of the fire have the "most heat and the most potential to grow. Working on that is our highest priority."

Moore emphasized that crews are all the way around the fire, and even after the fire lines are built, they are patrolling along the fire lines to make sure no embers cause new burning to occur.

She said conditions were good today for creating the fire lines, but said conditions are likely to change by Sunday with anticipated high winds and low humidity, causing critical fire weather conditions.
