Grant County's native son, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Howie Morales locally garnered 83.8 percent of the vote against four other on-the-ballot candidates. Statewide, he did not fare as well, with almost every precinct reporting, he has received 14.27 percent of the vote. Gary King is the winner statewide with 35.02 percent of the vote. Coming in second is Alan Webber, with 22.64 percent, followed by Lawrence Rael, with 19.82 percent of the vote and Linda Lopez, with 8.22 percent. Two write-in candidates, Mario J. Martinez and Phillip George Chavez each received .01 percent, with 16 and 15 votes respectively.

King will face incumbent Republican Governor Susana Martinez in the November General Election.

In other contested races, statewide in the Democratic race for treasurer, Tim Eichenberg received 52.7 percent of the vote to John Wertheim's 47.3 percent. Eichenberg will face Republican Rick J. Lopez in November.

Other races were not contested, but each position will have contested races for the General Election.

For New Mexico federal positions, Republican Allen Weh, in the U.S. Senator race, received 63 percent of the vote to David Kale Clements' 37 percent. Weh will face incumbent Democrat Tom Udall in the General Election. In the U.S. Representative District 1 race, Republican Michael H. Frese, with 65.37 percent of the votes to Richard G. Priem's.63 percent, will face incumbent Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham.

In the U.S. Representative race, Democrat Roxanne "Rocky" Lara will race Republican incumbent Steve Pearce.

In the District 3 race, incumbent Democrat Ben Ray Lujan received 87.57 percent of the vote to, Rohert Blanch, his opponent's 12.43 percent of the vote. Lujan will face Republican Jefferson L. Byrd in the General Election.
