A small human-caused fire within the Gila National Forest was quickly brought under control. The fire off old Road 506, which connects to Bear Creek Road, started early Saturday afternoon about two miles from Wagon Wheel Lane, according to a resident of the area.

"We're glad to have good firefighters in our area," she said. "The Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire Department substation is near us and they were on it quick."

On their way out to an event in Pinos Altos, she said they met af our-wheel-drive vehicle, lights flashing, and two hot shot crew trucks headed to the fire."

From Pinos Altos, they could see some smoke, but by the time they returned home almost no smoke was visible.

"They pretty well knocked it down quickly," she said, "thankfully."
