New Mexico Gas Company let Western New Mexico University know about an issue with the lack of odorization in their gas lines in the southwest area. New Mexico Gas injected odorization into their border station to solve the problem. This affectedt he entire community in terms of creating prevalent gas odor where gas appliances are located.

New Mexico Gas Company wants the public to be aware that community members may sense a strong gas odor when turning on their appliances. They have informed us that the odor should subside within five to eight hours.

Evacuation of campus buildings was not needed. As a precaution, WNMU maintenance staff will be checking and monitoring gas lines for any possible leaks.
