Diego Fire Information - 6/30/14

Situation: Community meeting tonight at the Coyote Elementary School @ 7:30

Fire crews continue to fight the 1,000+ acre Diego Fire, which is burning southeast of Coyote, NM. Currently the Northern New Mexico Type III Incident Management Team is in command of the fire, but they will be transitioning to Nieto's Type II Incident Management Team this evening. Dry, hot and windy weather is causing extreme fire behavior and long range spotting, but at this time, no structures are threatened. Heavy fuels and bug-kill are also aiding in the extreme fire behavior. Several campers on private land were asked to evacuate as a precaution, but no structures have been evacuated.

At this time, weather conditions are pushing fire eastward.

Road blocks on Forest Road 93/103, 103/116, and 115; NM State Police officers are on-scene handling that aspect.

Crews are focusing on anchoring and flanking the north and south sides of the fire, moving eastward.
