The Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services office was broken into and damaged about a week ago.

Last Monday, June 30, Acting Director Stephanie Gonzales walked into the office about 9 a.m. Because she could smell smoke, she backed out and called Dispatch. Police and the Fire Department answered the call and put out the fires of papers smoldering on three desktops and investigated.

"Our three computers, an old and a new projector and their remotes and a brand-new never-used camera, also were taken," Gonzales said.

She said the point of entry had not yet been determined.

"We've been trying to clean the walls and the carpet ourselves, but it still smells smoky a week later," Gonzales said. "We are seeking donations to have the office professionally cleaned. The walls are covered with soot, and the carpet is smoky."

As the desks were also damaged, at least the most severely damaged will require replacement.
