Nine Grant County 4-H youth competed at the 91st New Mexico State 4-H Conference held July 14-17 in Las Cruces, NM. Grant County was represented by the following senior age (14-19 yrs. old) 4-H members: Ty Dalton, Ethan Fisher, Tyler Monzingo, Jordan Gonzalez, Sinea Runnels, Sabrena Sloan, Tanah Lowe, Mary Thuerauf, and Sabrina Thuerauf. While at the convention the 4-H members voted on new state 4-H officers, attended leadership workshops, and competed in various events. These events included, Horse Judging, Hippology, Public Speaking, Presentations, Wildlife, Horticulture, Livestock, and Entomology judging.

Sam Lowry, Grant County Extension AG /4-H agent, Judy O'Loughlin the Grant County Extension Home Economist / 4-H agent, and Melisa Sloan a 4-H parent / chaperone attended the conference with the Grant County 4-H youth. Grant County and the Grant County 4-H program were well represented by our local 4-H members. Congratulations to the Grant County attendees of the 2014 New Mexico State 4-H Conference on all of their accomplishments.

The placings for the contests mentioned above are as follows:

Wildlife - 3rd place team consisting of Ty Dalton, Ethan Fisher, Tyler Monzingo, and Jordan Gonzalez. Tyler Monzingo placed 4th individually.

Entomology- Sinea Runnels placed 4th individually.

Horse Judging- 6th place team consisting of Mary Thuerauf, Sabrina Thuerauf, and Tanah Lowe

Horticulture - 5th place team consisting of Ethan Fisher, Jordan Gonzalez, Ty Dalton, and Sinea Runnels. Ethan Fisher placed 6th individually.

Ag Presentations- 2nd place team consisting of Tanah Lowe and Sabrina Thuerauf.

Hippology- 1st place team consisting of Mary Thuerauf, Sabrina Thuerauf, and Tanah Lowe

Competing in Livestock judging and Prepared Public Speaking was Sabrena Sloan.

Competing in Impromptu Public Speaking was Tyler Monzingo.
