On the evening of September 11, 2014, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Grant County Detention Center Officers discovered two inmates, Adam Martinez and Tyler Cole, missing from the M3 Pod of the Male Unit. The M3 Pod is a dormitory type cell that held nine (9) inmates. Martinez and Cole were both accounted for during formal inmate count at approximately 9:00 p.m. Detention Center Administration believes that after formal count was taken, the two inmates removed a metal panel in the ceiling, then apparently climbed up into the ceiling and followed the pipe channel in the roof and exited the facility through a maintenance door. The officers found a sheet hanging from the missing panel in the ceiling, which the inmates apparently used to climb up into the ceiling. When other inmates in the Pod were questioned, most indicated that they didn't see anything, but some described that the inmates had escaped through the ceiling panel.

After discovering the inmates were missing, law enforcement agencies were immediately notified. While searching the perimeter of the facility with a canine, Border Patrol agents found clothing that had been discarded by the inmates a short distance from the facility. Agencies are following all leads and a search is being conducted by the US Marshall's Office, the Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police and other local agencies. The Detention Center is in complete lock down and all programming has been suspended at this time.

Martinez is a Hispanic male, weighing 230 lbs., is 6'0" in height, has brown eyes, and brown hair (may have bald, shaved head). Martinez has numerous tattoos on his upper chest and arms. He has a pitchfork tattoo on his face, on his right cheek. Martinez was arrested by Silver City Police Department on August 14, 2014, on a warrant for resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, and criminal trespass. He was charged for numerous felonies and misdemeanors. His pending cases are M-19-FR-2014-148 and M-19-MR-2014-128 in the Grant County Magistrate Court.

Cole is a white male, weighing 132 lbs., is 5'02" in height, has brown eyes, and short brown hair. Cole has multiple tattoos. He has a star under his right eye, a "fear none" tattoo on his abdomen, a star on his right arm, a skull on his upper right arm, and a collage on his chest and left arm. Cole was arrested by Silver City Police Department on May 5, 2014, on a warrant for failure to appear and was charged for possession of a controlled substance, resisting and evading, and for bringing contraband into a place of confinement. At the time of his escape, Cole's sentence had been suspended and he was scheduled to be transported to the Men in Recovery rehabilitation program. His pending cases are with the Sixth Judicial District Court, D-608-CR-2014-82 and D-608-CR-2014-84.

Both inmates are believed to be associated with the gang commonly known as the "East Side Folk," and are considered dangerous and law enforcement should be notified immediately if they are sighted. Warrants will be issued for both inmates for the escape, as well as other state charges.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the matter. We are requesting that you contact the Grant County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers with any information on the whereabouts of these inmates.
