Barbara Nance and Kay Henderson have an animated conversation about Nance's work.

Red Dot Weekend, Oct. 11-13, got off to a Friday evening start, with a reception at the Blue Dome Gallery, back in its former location at the northwest corner of Yankie and Texas streets in downtown Silver City. The featured artists were Barbara Jorgen Nance, with paintings and sculptures, and Ceci Stanford. Nance's work will be familiar to her fans, but Stanford's work has changed from her ceramic work.

Stanford stands beside one of her very detailed stitchery pieces and holds one of her books.

"While I was helping take care of my parents, I couldn't do my ceramics," Stanford told the Beat. "So I switched to a blog, from which I created some graphic novels, and did stitchery, which I could work on and put down when I was needed. Both activites were an artistic safety valve for me, and the blog helped keep the family apprised of what was happening. Hence the title of my show—'While I Was Waiting.'" She also worried that the very detailed work in the stitchery could not be seen well in a photo. She is right, so you'll just have to go check out the show during Red Dot Weekend.
