Hundreds of Silver City-branded Balloons were given out this weekend at Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta by Silver City Arts & Cultural District (SCACD). The Balloon Fiesta, now in its 43rd year, attracts an estimated 100,000 visitors daily, totaling more than 850,000 attendees during the nine-day event.

Outreach at the Fiesta was in partnership with the New Mexico Tourism Department, which had premier space next to the launch field. Silver City Tourism Director George Julian Dworin shared, "We're very excited about our partnership with New Mexico Tourism. Our presence at such a large-scale venue wouldn't be possible without their support. This was a great opportunity for us to reach a wide audience of cultural travelers and promote Silver City as a New Mexico True destination."

In addition to giving away 500 helium balloons at the Fiesta, Silver City offered a vacation giveaway. The giveaway features a two-night stay at the historic Murray Hotel and meals for two including breakfast at Millie's Bake House, lunch at Diane's Restaurant and Parlor, and dinner at Shevek & Co. Restaurant. The drawing was held on Wednesday, October 15th, and the winner was selected by Mayor Morones at the Murray Ryan Visitor Center. The winner will be announced pending notification.

Silver City Mayor Mike Morones said, "Tourism is a critical part of our economic livelihood, contributing to the quality of life of our community. Silver City has so much to offer our visitors. I am enthusiastic about this type of outreach effort."

Future promotional efforts include more events and festivals in New Mexico, Texas and Arizona, throughout the year. More giveaways are planned, as well as an emphasis on social media marketing. Follow along on facebook: Silver City NM Tourism.
