After doing the search and voting in a new member, the Silver School Board finds itself back in that same position once again. Shortly after the October 14 meeting, its newest member turned in his resignation.

A call to Trent Petty, board president, yielded the information that Mike McMillan asked to be released, as his wife wanted to apply for a position in the district. That would have created a conflict of interest, said Petty, who said he informed McMillan that he must resign before his wife made an application.

Now, says Petty, the board can start all over again. It will take some time to advertise the vacancy and set up the process of informing the public and choosing another person.

In another month or two it will be time to start the work of setting up regular board elections, which will happen between December and February, when the usual elections are held.
