 Burglaries & Arrest

Location: Silver City, New Mexico

On October 27, 2014, officers of the Silver City Police Department responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting of two Sony PlayStation consoles.

Officers were able to identify the individual who was a 16-year-old male juvenile through photo surveillance. The juvenile was taken into custody on a previously issued Juvenile Probation & Parole hold on November 18, 2014. During an interview, the suspect admitted to stealing the PlayStations and various other crimes. See below.

 

In the Wal-Mart shoplifting incident, the juvenile was charged in Children's Court with ONE count of committing a delinquent act: Felony Shoplifting.

On October 10, 2014, officers responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting of two 32-inch Emerson televisions. According to the reporting party the suspect took the TVs and fled the store and was seen getting inside a white Dodge truck that had a flat bed.

During the interview of the juvenile on November 18, the investigator informed the male juvenile that she was able to identify him through the video footage from Wal-Mart that he had taken the TVs. The juvenile admitted to stealing the televisions from inside. When he was asked by investigator who was with him at the time he committed the crime, he stated Josh Ybarra, 21 years of age, and Joe Mays, 34 years of age. He was asked by Joe Mays to go inside and steal the TVs.

The juvenile was charged in Children's Court with ONE count of committing a delinquent act: Felony Shoplifting.

Joe Mays has been charged with ONE count of accessory to larceny, a fourth-degree felony, and ONE count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, also a fourth-degree felony.

Josh Ybarra, 21, was picked up on the warrant in reference to the October 10 theft of TVs at Wal-Mart. All subjects are Silver City area residents.

One other suspect who has not been arrested on the warrant yet has also been charged with ONE count of accessory to larceny, a fourth-degree felony, and ONE count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, also a fourth-degree felony.

On October 19, 2014 officers responded to Copper Country Sporting Goods in reference to a burglary. The victim/owner, Kristine Clark, stated that nothing was taken however the possible suspects did appear to have tried to steal ammunition.

During the interview of the juvenile on November 18, 2014, the suspect also admitted to burglarizing the business. Further, he implicated two other persons, Mauricio Acosta, 18 years of age, and Gustavo Acosta, 20 years of age. The juvenile suspect admitted that they had intentions of stealing handguns from inside the business.

The juvenile was charged in Children's Court with ONE count of committing a delinquent act: Burglary, a fourth-degree felony.

Gustavo Acosta and Mauricio Acosta were charged each with ONE count of Accessory to Burglary, a fourth degree felony, and ONE count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor also a fourth-degree felony.

On October 20, 2014 officers responded to the 400 block N. Swan St in reference to a burglary. The victim reported that clothes and tools were taken from the residence.

The juvenile was also questioned about this burglary and admitted to entering the residence through a window and taking the items.

The juvenile was charged in the Children's Court with two counts of committing a delinquent act: burglary, a third-degree felony and larceny, a petty misdemeanor.

On October 23, 2014 officers were dispatched to the 900 block of N. Corbin St in reference to vehicle burglaries. The parties reported that clothes and a purse were taken from inside the vehicles.

During the interview of the juvenile on November 18, the male juvenile was questioned about the vehicle burglaries and admitted to taking the clothes, purse and a wallet from the vehicles. He stated he was alone when he committed the crimes.

The juvenile was charged in the Children's Court with FOUR counts of committing a delinquent act: THREE counts of vehicle burglary, fourth-degree felonies, and ONE count of Injuring or Tampering with a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
