At its Tuesday, Feb. 10, meeting ,the Hurley Town Council approved a $100,000 work order to allow Engineer's Inc. of Silver City to define the boundaries of a plot of land for a cemetery. According to Mayor Edward Encinas, Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc. has donated 9.5-acres for the cemetery but the boundaries of where it is to be located are needed before the land transfer can take place.

Councilors also approved an authorization to apply for Community Development Block Grant funds for a drainage improvement project on Nevada Street between Second Street and Chino Blvd. The application must be completed by March 18, Encinas said.

The Town of Hurley will soon receive $125,000 in capital outlay funds from the New Mexico Legislature to continue with the project to heat the A Street Park Swimming Pool.
