Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) presented a groundbreaking collection of monologues at WNMU's Light Hall on Thursday, February 26. Entitled "A Memory, a Monologue, a Rant and a Prayer," this work is a call to demand an end to violence against women.

The six monologues were commissioned for the inaugural 2006 "V-Day: Until the Violence Stops" festival in New York City. Movingly portrayed by members of the Silver City community, these women addressed a number of issues related to women and violence, with stories that are funny and angry, heartfelt and inspired, tragic and beautiful.

The evening serves as a fundraiser for SASS, which works to empower and support individuals, families and communities impacted by sexual violence. The performance was preceded by a silent auction, with more than a dozen donated gift packages ranging from gourmet foods and dog treats to specialty items for book lovers and bicyclists. SASS also held a bake sale with a wide variety of tasty, and beautifully decorated, sweet treats.

"A Memory, a Monologue, a Rant and a Prayer" will be presented again at the Silver High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 27. The winners of the silent auction will be announced after the performance on Friday.
