Santa Clara Mayor Richard Bauch signed an agreement with the state of New Mexico this morning at a special village council meeting.

He told the Beat that the agreement with the state is for the village to do emergency weed abatement and pothole repairs to improve the site for safety and aesthetically.

"We will be working with volunteer groups and city crews to keep Fort Bayard from deteriorating further," Bauch said.

The agreement, because it was signed in the middle of the fiscal year is good until July 1.
