Jordan Harris caught burglarizing house

By Roger Lanse

Jordan Harris, 35, of Silver City, was arrested by Silver City police officers on April 17, 2015, after officers were dispatched to an address on Bennett Street in reference to a burglary in progress.

Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority personnel advised officers that a white male wearing a green hat and a black backpack was seen entering the house shortly before officers arrived at approximately 10:06 a.m. According to police documents, officers made contact with Jordan inside the house. Jordan was wearing a green hat and a black backpack. Once escorted outside, Jordan was placed in handcuffs.

Police documents state that the owner of the residence, Lawrence Moore, said that he was in his truck having lunch when he observed the male, later identified as Harris, walk up the driveway, past his truck, and knock on the front door three times saying "hello." Harris then knocked three more times, opened the door, and walked inside, and that's when Moore called police, Moore said.

Officers discovered in Harris' backpack a rubber case that had several miscellaneous gems, a pearl ring, an RCA tablet, an Xfinity remote, a Black and Decker drill, and another TV remote. Police documents state that Moore said the gems were in a safe and the key was kept on the safe. Moore estimated the value of the pilfered items at $5,430.

Harris was charged with one count each of burglary, a third degree felony, and larceny, a fourth degree felony, police documents say. He was booked into the Grant County Detention Center, where he remains in custody, as of April 24, under a $16,500 cash only bond and a $6,000 cash or surety bond, both out of magistrate court, according to GCDC personnel.
