Approximately a dozen pieces of pottery that had been on display in Western New Mexico University's McCray Building were stolen sometime Sunday, April 26, prior to the theft being reported at 1:30 p.m., according to Abe Villarreal, Director of Communications for the university.

Although there is no evidence to suspect forced entry to the building as faculty, students and others were in the building at the time, a padlock to the case containing the pottery was broken, Villarreal said.

"We haven't put a value on the missing pieces yet," Villarreal stated. "Because we are still doing inventory at this time."

The collection had been on display for several years, Villarreal said, and contained pottery made by a variety of contemporary artists.

The incident is being investigated by the WNMU Campus Police.
