In a crash on a descent around Pinos Altos, at least two cyclists received injuries. Anthony Canevari of Canyon Bicycles Shimano was airlifted to El Paso with a broken pelvis.

Julian Kyer of Team Smartstop had a possible broken collarbone, although Rebecca Reza, public relations, could not confirm the injury.

Reza did confirm that Nicolas Masbourian, a Canadian riding for Silver Pro Cycling, dropped out of the race. He was one of the badly injured last year, receiving a broken jaw in the Tour of the Gila crash near Glenwood that took out several racers. Masbourian was trying to make a comeback, but this was only his second race since the injury, and he made the decision to stop.

Sixteen racers have dropped out for various reasons.
