SILVER CITY, NM - June 1, 2015 - Firefighters are engaged on initial attack of the Treasure Mountain Fire located on Bureau of Land Management land approximately six miles northwest of Silver City. The wildfire is estimated at eight acres, burning primarily in grass and pinyon juniper. About 30 personnel are assigned to the incident and additional engines and BLM Initial Attack crew have been ordered.
Las Cruces District Office Acting Fire Management Officer Tom McKibbin, said, "Full suppression actions will be taken on this wildfire. Smoke will be visible from various locations in and around Silver City while firefighters manage the incident."
The interagency fire management effort includes resources assigned from the Bureau of Land Management, Gila National Forest, New Mexico State Forestry and local fire departments. Information will also be posted on the New Mexico Fire Information website at http://nmfireinfo.com/
