Daryl Rodriguez is charged with two felonies

(SILVER CITY, GRANT COUNTY),---On Saturday June 13, 2015, at about 4:30 A.M., Grant County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to # 8 Cherry Street in Arenas Valley New Mexico, in reference to shots fired. While Deputies were responding to that address, they received information that a male had been shot. Reporting parties gave Central Dispatch information on the suspect vehicle. Deputies were able to locate that vehicle headed East on Highway 180. After confirming the description of the suspect vehicle, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle at the Intersection of Prescott and Cottonwood in Santa Clara, New Mexico. Suspects in this case were passengers in this vehicle.

When Deputies arrived on scene, they were able to make contact with the male that had been shot. Wyatt Hawkins (41 YOA/from Arenas Valley) suffered one gunshot wound to his leg. Hawkins was able to advise Deputies that Daryl Rodriguez (34 YOA/from Silver City) was the shooter.

Daryl Rodriguez was arrested for one count of Aggravated Battery, a 3rd Degree Felony and Tampering with Evidence a 4th Degree Felony. Rodriguez bond was set at $15,000. Rodriguez was arrested without incident.

Ashley Ortega (28 YOA/from Arenas Valley), who was a passenger in the vehicle with Rodriguez, was charged with one count of Accessory to Commit Aggravated Battery, a 3rd Degree Felony and Accessory to Commit Tampering with Evidence a 4th Degree Felony. Ortega's bond was set at $15,000. Ortega was also arrested without incident.
Hawkins was airlifted to another hospital. Hawkins was treated and released from that hospital.

The investigation on this case is still ongoing. Other charges and or arrests are pending.
