Caroline Baldwin, a resident of Silver City, New Mexico, her daughter Lydia, Nurse Manager in the intensive care unit of Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Caroline's granddaughter Cara Baldwin, who just completed her first year at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, will once again fly Caroline's Piper Cherokee in a woman-only race, Air Race Classic. They fly as the Baldwin Family Flyers, a unique three family members team. Their race number for takeoff each morning of the race is 29.

This is Caroline's eleventh Air Race Classic, Lydia's sixth and Cara's fourth.  The race of 2,329 statute miles takes place June 22-25, 2015.

This year, the race begins in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and ends in Fairhope, Alabama. The teams, who can take up to four days to complete the race, must make stops at Morganton, North Carolina; then Hickory, NC; to Connellsville, Pennsylvania; to Jeffersonville, Indiana; Three Rivers, Michigan; to Kalamazoo, Michigan; on to Lawrenceville, Illinois; Kirksville, Missouri; Union City, Tennessee; and next to last at Gadsden, Alabama.

Pilots must use only visual flying rules, so weather can and does play a factor in the race. Each plane is handicapped, so the scoring is equal for each type of small aircraft.

This year 56 teams have signed up for the Air Race Classic.

The teams leave Fredericksburg on Monday morning, weather permitting.

The Baldwins have arrived at the starting point to make final preparations and hold briefings from Friday onward.
