RESERVE, NM; June 18, 2015 - For Immediate Release - The Pinon Fire on the Reserve Ranger District has grown to 110 acres. The lightning-caused fire east of Eagle Peak is being managed to achieve resource objectives such as protecting wildlife habitat, cultural resources and livestock forage in the area.

Personnel assigned to the incident have observed slow, steady growth, primarily to the south and west. As the fire progresses, actions will be taken to prevent rapid fire spread within the pre-determined management area for the incident.

John Pierson, Reserve District Ranger, says "Managing the Pinon Fire is a good opportunity to return fire to this area to help reduce the risk of future severe wildfire occurrence."

Officials take into consideration many factors when deciding to manage fires over the long-term. These factors include firefighter and public safety, location, fuels, terrain, time of year, current and forecast weather, potential fire spread and smoke impacts.

The forecast shows rising temperatures and partly cloudy skies with the potential for precipitation early next week.
