EMNRD-FORESTRY DIVISION

On behalf of the USFS - Gila National Forest: Update of 6-23-2015 -- 10:00 AM

MIMBRES, NM -The Moore and Middle fires grew together Monday as activity increased to the north and south of Tom Moore Mesa in the Gila Wilderness. The lightning-caused fires will now be reported as the Moore Fire. The fire is estimated at 4,000 acres with approximately 55 personnel assigned. The Moore Fire is being managed by the Gila Las Cruces Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team. Personnel on the incident include smokejumpers, hotshots and stock to transport supplies into the Gila Wilderness.

Fire crews are managing this incident to achieve resource objectives such as protecting wildlife habitat and allowing fire to resume its role in a fire-adapted ecosystem. They will continue to work along trails around the fire to reinforce the boundary of the planned management area for the incident.

Please drive with caution on Highway 35 and Forest Road 150 as traffic has increased around the fire. The forecast shows an increased chance of showers over the next few days.
