Summary:
Last night a lightning bolt ignited a fire south of Geronimo Trail Road near the fire camp manned by firefighters. Named the Lion Fire for nearby Lion Creek, fire fighters reported the new start and monitored it. By morning it was not putting up any smoke. Adjacent to the fire scar of the just burned Guadalupe Fire, it will continue to be monitored but due to high humidity that moved into the area with the arrival of monsoonal moisture from the southwest, it is unlikely to burn additional acreage.
Changes in weather and fire activity have resulted in the fire manager's decision to slowly curtail fire management activities over the next two days on the Hog Fire. It is anticipated that assigned fire support functions will decrease by half over several days as resources are released to other fires.
A hotshot crew and an initial attack crew remain working as the Hog Fire is transitioning into a monitoring operation. With 50% of the fire contained, crews will begin mop up and monitoring activities today and remain for several days addressing perimeter hot spots as the fire cools down. Additionally, crews will be working to chip windrowed vegetation cut and stacked along the Geronimo Trail Road when preparatory work was accomplished prior to burnouts.

Geronimo Trail Road remains closed where it enters the Coronado National Forest. Additionally the area closure, which extends north beyond Skeleton Canyon, remains in effect until fire suppression activities terminate.
