Summary: The lightning-caused Commissary Fire on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District is located 13 miles to the east of Pecos, NM and two miles south of Barillas Peak.

The Commissary Fire showed minor activity on Saturday due to the area receiving heavy afternoon showers. The fire remains at 1,531 acres. Fire managers have decided to downsized the operation and send some crews home. Remaining crews will focus efforts on chipping and piling debris along Forest Road 66B and continue preparation work along the northern boundary. Fire managers will continue to monitor the fire as precipitation is predicted throughout the week.

Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems are encouraged to take precautionary measures. Information on air quality and protecting your health can be found online at the New Mexico Environment Department's website at https://nmtracking.org/fire.

Public recreational areas, on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District, are not affected by the Commissary Fire and are open. There are also no fire restrictions in place.

Road Advisories: Public traffic is highly discouraged on Forest Roads 83 and 66 due to heavy firefighter traffic and narrow road conditions. Caution is also advised while driving from lower Colonias north on Forest Road 83.
