Summary: The lightning-caused Commissary Fire on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District is located 13 miles to the east of Pecos, NM, and two miles south of Barillas Peak.

Despite heavy rainstorms Saturday and a bit more rain early Sunday morning, heavy fuels in the interior of the fire continued to burn with a minimal amount of smoke. Total precipitation over the last 24 hours was reported at about a half inch. Precipitation is predicted for the rest of the week.

Today, crews will continue chipping along the western boundary of Forest Road 66 in anticipation of the next opportunity to allow the fire to grow to meet resource objectives.

Public recreational areas on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District are not affected by the Commissary Fire and are open. There are also no fire restrictions in place.

Road Advisories: Public traffic is highly discouraged on Forest Roads 83 and 66 due to heavy firefighter traffic and narrow road conditions. Caution is also advised while driving from lower Colonias north on Forest Road 83.
