Caroline Baldwin, Silver City resident, said of the Air Race Classic: "We are very pleased to report that we, Classic Racer 29, placed 17 of 50 starting planes. Forty-nine finished, and four never made it to the start because of weather."

The all-female race featured 16 university teams including four, who finished in the top 10 - 1st - Southern Illinois Univ.- Carbondale; 2nd - Univ. of North Dakota; 4th. -Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Univ. -Prescott; and
6th - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Univ. - Daytona.

Classic Racer 29 had aboard three Baldwin family members-Caroline, her daughter Lydia from Fort Collins, CO, and her granddaughter, Cara Baldwin, who is a student at Embry-Riddle in Prescott.

Of the nine legs of the race, "we three took turns piloting so each of us flew three legs," Baldwin reported. "Most every day was cloudy, hot, humid. Our days included mostly low-altitude flying, haze, avoiding clouds and headwinds. A few planes had mechanical problems that delayed them. My plane was very reliable. All teams flew a safe race."
