Scammers get more creative trying to get your money

(Albuquerque, N.M.) - Scammers are using the PNM Home Energy Checkup Program as a way to try to steal your money.

Customers have reported receiving calls from someone claiming to be with the PNM Home Energy Checkup program. The caller tells the customer they've won a $100 gift card but there is a $5 processing fee. The scammers then request credit card information.

"The PNM Home Energy Checkup program does not do contests, and we want our customers to know if they get a call like this they should not reveal their personal information," said Emma van Moorsel, PNM Home Energy Checkup program manager. "With the PNM Home Energy Checkup Program, customers initiate the call to schedule an appointment before we ever request payment, which is made through a secure credit card processing system."

If you've received a similar call, please report it to law enforcement.
