According to a rumor that found its way to the Grant County Beat, on Tuesday, July 28, that Freeport McMoRan was moving all the graves in the Savannah Cemetery on its property to the Cliff Cemetery for unknown reasons.

Eric Kinneberg, Freeport €™s Director of External Communications, told the Beat that €œFreeport has no current plans to relocate any graves. € When asked if Freeport has had any requests to relocate any graves now or in the future, Kinneberg responded, €œAll I can say is that Freeport has no current plans to relocate any graves. €

Pressed by the Beat to acknowledge information received by a source, who wishes to remain anonymous, that a family had requested to have two family members' remains moved from Tyrone to Cliff or to a private ranch, Kinneberg responded “evidently.”

Asked if the Savannah Cemetery had graves that were in the way of Freeport’s operations, Kinneberg responded, “We have no plans to relocate any graves.”

The Savannah Cemetery was established In 1906.
