On the last stop in her quest to visit all 33 counties in New Mexico, Republican Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Debbie Maestas visited with the Grant County GOP chairman, Mike Rowse, today.

She called the Beat so we would have a chance to find out what the party is up to.

"We in the Republican Party are active, engaged and excited about our outreach to communities," Maestas said. "We are for common-sense solutions.

"We have a wonderful group of candidates for president, and we have a great opportunity in 2016," Maestas said. "We are working on unification of the party. We want to educate voters on the candidates so they can rally around them."

She said the state GOP wants to retain its seats in the New Mexico House of Representatives and take the Senate in 2016.

"Together with a Republican president, we can make some positive changes," Maesta said.

She attended the televised presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio, earlier this month. "I enjoyed the event. We're excited and looking forward to 2016. We are positive about what we can accomplish."
