We have until October 31 to vote DAILY to keep the Continental Divide Trail in the top two spots in a challenge to win $25,000 for trail upgrades and maintenance, including moving the trail away from highways.

Or, as this editor has it, put it as a bookmark in your browser-whatever it takes to remind you to vote every day. Even a sticky note on the edge of your phone, tablet or desktop computer will remind you to vote. 

We are within striking distance of the top contender, but we also have a trail in Florida gaining on us. Don't let Florida take this away from us. 

If you've ever set foot on the trail, and I know lots of you have, whether in southern New Mexico or in the northern part of the state or in Colorado, Wyoming or Montana, then you know the worth of the trail. If you haven't yet been on the trail, your vote will help the trails improve, so when you do hike on it, you will benefit from your vote. 

Even if you live in New York or California, anywhere in between or even outside the U.S., vote for the Continental Divide Trail, of which Silver City is one of the gateway communities.
